Automation Systems of Arab Potash Company Contribute to Operational Efficiency

Arab Potash Company (APC) recently completed a huge project at Safi that was aimed at modernizing and improving the efficiency of the refining process. The project was aimed at increasing the capacity from 2 million tons to 2.5 million tons a year.

APC took initiatives to upgrade the existing hot leach and cold crystallization plants and to build a second cold crystallization plant.

APC’s warehousing facilities at Aqaba had to be modernized and expanded. The two systems 800xA automation systems installed at Safi and Aqaba were aimed at improving the existing facilities. The objective of the project was to integrate all automation functions present at the sites into a single  operations and engineering environment. This project aims at cutting down cost and enables operational efficiency for all facilities.

ABB has already designed a control, electrical and instrumentation package to boost the capacity at Aqaba. The package has contributed to improving  efficiency and reduces time for storage and loading operations. System 800xA distributed control system controls the long conveyor system, three stackers and two reclaimers help deliver products of consistent quality.
