Robot Allows Specialists to Interact with Hospital Staff and Patients

Carteret General Hospital has collaborated with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to launch a telestroke robot, Riley that would help expert doctors in rendering treatment to patients present in remote locations.

Telestroke robot

Riley, a first of its kind robot in eastern North Carolina is currently functioning as a staff at Carteret General Hospital.

Real time video-audio conferencing ability is one of the key advantages of the remote controlled robot. Using Riley, doctors at Carteret General can contact the stroke specialists at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center during emergency situations.

Riley, capable of navigating freely, allows the stroke specialist, present in a remote location, to talk to the hospital staff, patients, and family members through the robot’s monitor.

Riley can also efficiently share information about patients, so that the medical professionals can access the particular patient’s data like the CT scan. The robot also comes equipped with a telephone for conversing privately and a stethoscope for use.
