Alive Technologies, a company that designs and manufactures medical products, has developed a remote monitoring device for helping doctors to check on their patients.
The company has designed a new Heart and Activity Monitor to enable doctors to save their patients from potentially dangerous situations like an irregular heartbeat while exercising.
This device records the entire electrocardiogram (ECG) signal, the accelerometer readings based on activity and the GPS location. Alive’s device is also capable of wirelessly transferring the data to the physician. The device proves to be useful for addressing any medical emergencies or adjusting the exercise routine.
A study was conducted on six patients to check the reliability of this device among a more diverse population. The study confirmed that individuals involved in the study were motivated to exercise because of this device, but the device had some technical issues on 20% of the trials.
Researchers found that using this device, any abnormalities in a patient’s ECG can be easily tracked by doctors. Researchers can also call for an ambulance using the GPS data under an emergency.
