Taiwan Researchers Design Robot for Playing Basketball with High Precision

The National Chiao-Tung University in Taiwan has launched a new robotic project, where the unnamed robot tosses basketballs with high precision.

Unlike traditional robots that play sport, this robot does not repeatedly play the same shot covering the same distance.

The unnamed robot is challenged with a new target after every throw. The robot is capable of making random moves to meet the challenges posed by a second basketball hoop robot.

Researchers found that the system devised to make the robot work is 99% accurate. The robot also comes equipped with a stereo camera mounted to locate the backboard of the basket. The robot then uses the data to map the basket and adjusts its throw in one dynamic movement.

The robot consists of a single robotic arm, which is enclosed in a luxurious seal outfit to resemble a sea creature.
