Presbyterian’s First Robotic Surgery Conducted Using da Vinci Robot

A team of 10 newly trained surgeons at the Presbyterian Hospital will perform a robotic surgery on Channing Huser, under the supervision of Karen Finkelstein. The robotic procedure is slated to commence at 5:30 a.m. and the hospital will give live updates about the surgery on twitter.

Huser has undergone several costly treatments suggested by different doctors. The 44-year-old massage therapist has finally decided to undergo a robotic surgery conducted by Dr. Finkelstein with the assistance of the da Vinci robot. Dr. Finkelstein does not have any prior experience in robotic surgery.

The less invasive procedure is relatively new in New Mexico and provides minimal pain for patients. The risk involving larger incisions can be avoided using this surgery. Some major advantages of robotic surgery are precision achieved by doctors, smaller incision, and fast recovery of patients. This less invasive surgery, conducted on Huser, will be aimed at the removal of uterus.
