Pitt County Team Trains to Emerge as Champions

The FIRST Robotics Team from Pitt County revealed their robot in South Central High School's library. With team members from each of the six high schools in the county, the students worked incessantly on a robot with the parts and set of rules delivered to them.

The theme for the competition is “Logomotion.” The competition will be held on March 25-26 at Washington, DC and April 7- 9 at Raleigh.

Each entry will have 2 minutes during which the robot will have to place inflated swimming tubes of different shapes on a shelf. Each robot will be assigned a driver to help arrange the tubes in the correct order. In the last 30 seconds, the larger robot will release a smaller robot which will need to climb a pole simultaneously with mini robots from other teams.

South Central science teacher and group sponsor, Mamta Singh appreciates the outcome of the task upon the students. Apart from the hands-on learning experience, the students not only get a chance to develop their leadership and communication skills but also learn to work together.

The Pitt County team is confident and happy with the outcome of their robot. In-built sensors allow the robot to guide itself with colored paths marked on the floor.

Based on their skills, the team has applied for the safety animation video award, the web design award and also the Chairman’s award.
