Robotic Surgeries to be Performed at Fortis Hospitals

International Centre for Robotic Surgery (ICRS) in collaboration with Fortis Healthcare plans to set up a state-of-the-art center, called Fortis International Centre for Robotic Surgery’ (Fortis ICRS), for robotic surgery.

The first ICRS centre will be set up at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi. Following this, more Fortis ICRS centres will be set up covering the entire network of Fortis.

The cost of the surgery is less for procedures involving robotic surgery. Fortis ICRS will offer a full range of robotic surgeries for the heart, lung, head, and neck. Surgeries involving urology, gynecology, and other general areas will also be performed using robots. The surgical teams at Fortis hospitals, across various cities in India, will conduct these surgeries with the help of highly qualified robotic surgeons from the US and other countries abroad.

Robotic operations has helped in solving the vital drawbacks present in the healthcare sector, such as cost of the treatment, shortage of qualified doctors and nurses, and management of chronic diseases. The key benefits of robotic surgery are enhanced precision and reduced trauma or blood loss. Patients will also experience less pain, and fewer complications, which will lead to faster recovery and shorter hospital stays.

Fortis will also tie up with other hospitals that have advanced medical facilities required for conducting robotic surgery. The da Vinci Surgical System was first used in India by the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi for carrying out cardiac operations. From March 10, 201, Fortis ICRS will start conducting robotic surgeries at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.
