Greater Berkeley Team to Participate in FIRST State Contest

‘Mad Dr. Lego’, an All Girl robotics team formed by eight students from Goose Creek, Ladson and the Macedonia areas of Berkeley County will take part in the FIRST State Contest, which will be conducted at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center on March 5.

The Greater Berkeley team was funded by the Motorola and the Girl Scouts. The team contested at the Orangeburg Tech Regional contest. The theme given to the teams was ‘Body Forward’. The Mad Dr. Lego team spent several months working on Carbon Nanotubes as their research project. They developed a robot to carry out the desired tasks. The team won the Team Spirit Award and also bagged the third prize for Project Presentation.

Five of the ten teams supported by the Girls Scouts of Eastern South Carolina got qualified for the state level tournament.
